Multiple Award - Winning Bassist,
Composer, Band Leader
Teenager Gabriel Severn developed a love for bass before he could even talk. His devotion to music and his desire to master every aspect of the instrument has taken him on an eventful musical journey: he's received five DownBeat awards, two Jazz Education Network awards, and a nomination from the Central PA Music Hall of Fame. He's performed coast to coast, appeared at many notable music festivals, performed alongside several of his musical idols, recorded with artists from around the world, leads his own band, recorded his award-winning original music with prominent jazz artists, and received global radio airplay - all before his 16th Birthday.
Teen Town is Gabriel's DownBeat award-winning, powerhouse jazz fusion trio. With Logan Bedard on drums, and Connor Rohrer on keyboards, these young musicians are taking audiences by storm with their energy, their undeniable chemistry, and their exceptional talent. Named after one of the great jazz fusion tunes of the 1970s, Teen Town brings its own creative voice to the jazz fusion genre, performing original compositions as well as unique covers weaving jazz, funk, rock, and world rhythms into tunes by luminaries such as the Average White Band, Weather Report, the Yellowjackets, and Chick Corea.
A love of Brazilian bossa nova and samba inspired Gabriel to write his first tune, "Song for Fina", which he dedicated to a close family friend for her birthday. "Song for Fina" evolved into a DownBeat award-winning composition and was also selected by the Jazz Education Network for the JEN 2020 Young Composers Showcase. He recently performed the tune with the U.S. Navy Commodores at the JEN conference in New Orleans. He made his recording debut with the single in late 2018, teaming up with multiple Emmy Award winner and multiple GRAMMY Award nominee Chieli Minucci on guitar and in the producer's seat. Also featured on the project are Special EFX members and world-class musicians Joel Rosenblatt on drums and Jay Rowe on keys. In early 2019 Gabriel released his follow-up tune "Kick Start", also recorded with Special EFX. Dedicated to his Kickstarter backers, "Kick Start" earned him another DownBeat award for composition.
